The Rising Sun mixed doubles duo of Micah Thomas (pictured) and Megan Rohrer (Class 2A) and the Perryville girls’ doubles team of Alex Koons and Rebecca Holman (Class 1A) advanced to the State Tennis Championships.

Cecil County had success during last week’s inaugural Class 1A and 2A East Region tennis tournaments.

The Rising Sun mixed doubles duo of Micah Thomas and Megan Rohrer and the Perryville girls’ double tandem of Alex Koons and Rebecaa Holman battled their way to region titles.

Thomas and Rohrer powered their way to the 2A East crown with a victory over Kent Island’s Coyner/Teti, while Koons and Holman shined with a championship win over North Dorchester’s Blades/Usilton.

With their wins, the East, West, North and South region finalists in boys and girls singles, boys and girls doubles and mixed doubles move on to the state tournament this weekend at Wilde Lake Tennis Club in Columbia.

Additionally, state champions will be crowned in all four enrollment classifications (1A, 2A, 3A and 4A) for the first time ever.

There were other notable region performances by Cecil County tennis players. 1A action included a third-place finish by Perryville’ Jack Duff at boys’ singles, a third-place finish by Bo Manor’s Kelsey Meis at girls’ singles, a fourth-place result by Perryville’s Caleb Phillips/Noah Gravely at boys’ doubles, a third-place result by Bo Manor’s Courtney Schrader/Matthew Ellis at mixed doubles, a fourth-place result by Perryville’s GraceHope Stevens/Michael Olszewski at mixed doubles and a fourth-place result by Bo Manor’s L Rinker/Z Rhodes-Elmy at girls’ doubles.

Notable 2A East performances include a third-place result by Elkton’s Jake Bosler at boys’ singles, a fourth-place result by North East’s Karley McIlhatton at girls’ singles and a third-place result by Rising Sun’s Jackson Sopa/TimWinkelmann at boys doubles.
