CHESAPEAKE CITY — Bohemia Manor showcased strong play on several occasions during Monday’s 1A East Region Section II girls’ lacrosse playoff contest against visiting Cambridge-South Dorchester.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to contain the Vikings trio of Karlie Hughes and Morgan and Bayley Tracy, who combined to score 14 goals in a season-ending, 15-4, rout of the Eagles.
“When we did get the ball on offense, we were able to move and cut and move off of picks to go to goal,” Bo Manor head coach Brian Triantafillos said. “A couple of girls changed the levels of their shots. They did a nice job. We did a nice job defensively on one-on-ones in the second half. They set quality picks, and we couldn’t pick up their cuts.”
Cambridge-South Dorchester got rolling in the second minute of the first half when Bayley Tracy scored the first of her three goals to make it 1-0. Morgan Tracy followed by scoring two goals in 45 seconds to make it a three-goal game with 22:21 left in the first half.
Riley Pinato put the Eagles (6-7) on the board in the game’s eighth minute to make it 3-1, but Bayley Tracy, Mogan Tracy and Hughes each scored once over the final 16:27 of the half to give Vikings a 6-1 halftime lead.
Hughes scored five of her game-high six goals in the second half, while Morgan Tracy scored two of her five goals after the break to help Cambridge-South Dorchester out-score Bo Manor 9-3 in the final 25 minutes to pull away for the victory.
The Eagles received second-half goals from Paige DePaul, Sofia Triantafillos and Olivia Wilson.
Despite the loss, Triantafillos expressed belief that this season has helped build a foundation for the program.
“This is the starting point,” Triantaffilos said. “Their heart, their effort, their ability to learn, and we can build on that for next year.”
