Cecil College fell to rival Harford Community College 71-62 in the Maryland JUCO men’s basketball championship game at Novak Field House at Prince George’s C.C. on Sunday.
Cornell Corbin recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, Caleb Johnson chipped in 12 points off the bench with three rebound and three assists and both Jordan Griggs (six rebounds) and Carl Bradley (seven boards) both had 10 points for the Seahawks (12-13), who trailed 36-31 at halftime.
Cecil advanced to the finals after topping Frederick C.C., 78-76, in double overtime on Friday and beating College of Southern Maryland, 91-86, in overtime on Saturday.
Cecil women fall short of championship round
Cecil College fell to Harford C.C. 81-64 in the semifinal round of the Maryland JUCO women’s basketball tournament at the Novak Field House at Prince George’s C.C. on Saturday.
Kearah Henry scored 16 points with seven rebounds and two steals and Alexis Stubblefield added 13 points and seven boards, while Tiana Garvin netted 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the No. 20 Seahawks (20-5), who trailed 20-19 at halftime.
Cecil defeated Frederick C.C., 79-57, in the tournament opener on Friday.
UCBAC Boys’ Basketball
Tri-State Christian 75, Elkton 61
Jacob Falko just missed a triple-double, scoring 35 points, bringing down 11 rebounds and dishing out nine assists to go with five steals and Ryan Wilson had 24 points for the Crusaders (27-5), who received six points, 13 rebounds and five blocks from Matt Haskell.
The Golden Elks (12-3) led 25-21 at halftime.
North Harford 44, Rising Sun 40
Paul Keeney scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the first half, with seven 3-pointers, for the Hawks.
North East 56, Perryville 47
The Indians improve to 9-11 overall and 8-6 in the Susquehanna Division.
The Panthers fall to 6-14 overall and 5-9 in the lower division.
UCBAC Girls’ Basketball
Perryville 33, North East 20
The Panthers end the regular season 9-7 overall and 8-6 in the Susquehanna.
The Indians finish 7-13 overall and 6-8 in the lower division.
North Harford 55, Rising Sun 33
The Tigers end the regular season 7-11 overall and 4-10 in the lower division.
The Hawks improve to 8-12 on the year and 8-6 in the Susquehanna.
