ELKTON — There have been a couple of sightings of a 14-year-old Elkton girl who has been missing since Oct. 6 and “multiple apparent sightings,” according to police.

“I think the propensity for this being a runaway case is increasing with each piece of information we get,” Andrew Tuer, sergeant of special operations with the Elkton Police Department, told the Cecil Whig late Thursday afternoon.

Up until Thursday, the teen – Isabelle Alexandra Swiger – had been last seen by a fellow Elkton High School student between 1 and 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the parking lot of the McDonald’s at 226 Belle Hill Road, off Route 279, in Elkton.

“We have her on surveillance camera there at that time, and she was with a friend,” Tuer reported, declining to provide details concerning Swiger’s companion.

However, on Thursday, EPD investigators were able to confirm that Swiger was in Newark, Del., later on Oct. 6, in the evening, according to Tuer, who noted that, at one point, she had been viewed at an establishment, which he declined to name because of the ongoing missing person investigation.

“We were able to confirm through cameras in Newark that she was there that (Oct. 6) night. On camera, she did not appear to be in distress and she did not appear to harmed,” Tuer outlined.

There have been other reported sightings of Swiger in this area; however, investigators are not able to say with certainty that the person purportedly seen by the reporting people was her, according to Tuer.

“We have not been able to confirm those apparent sightings through video,” Tuer said, explaining that detectives have gone to the places where people reported seeing Swiger and have checked surveillance camera systems in those areas.

Swiger had gone to Elkton High School on the morning of Oct. 6, but, at some point, she left before dismissal without telling anyone, police said.

EPD detectives started their investigation that afternoon, after Swiger’s mother reported her missing “when it was learned that she left school without notice,” police added.

“This is a high-priority case for us, and we are actively and aggressively investigating any and all leads and tips,” Tuer told the Cecil Whig on Thursday.

Swiger is white, 5-foot-6, and 130 pounds. She has black hair down to her collar, brown eyes, a right nose piercing and a scar on her left cheek.

Anyone who knows Swiger’s whereabouts or has information that might help detectives is urged to call 911 or EPD Ofc. Joshua Leffew, lead investigator, at 410-398-4200, ext. 40.
