GLASGOW, Del. — A Cecil County man was struck and killed on a highway in Glasgow early Thursday, police said.

The crash happened at 12:45 a.m. on westbound Pulaski Highway near the state line, according to Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a spokesman for Delaware State Police.

The pedestrian, 35-year-old Chesapeake City resident Hogan Smith, was walking down the middle of the right turn lane near Rosetree Lane, Hatchell said.

A 22-year-old Newark, Del., man merged into the turn lane to turn into a neighborhood and struck Smith with his Jeep Cherokee. The driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting Smith but was unable to, Hatchell said.

Smith died at the scene. The driver was not hurt.

No charges were filed.
