Letters to the Editor

Missouri's requirement that people receive unnecessary pelvic examinations before beginning the mandatory three-day waiting period for abortions is state-mandated rape. The unnecessary penetration of human bodies under the coercive threat of withholding medical abortions is rape. This is unacceptable.

Congress must take aggressive actions to protect the bodily and medical autonomy of all people, including protecting reproductive and abortion services nationwide. Congress also needs to vocally and legislatively oppose Missouri's state mandated assault of abortion seekers.

I am calling on Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and Rep. Andy Harris, to remember that their job is to act in the best interests of constituents and the people of this country. Unnecessary and invasive medical procedures are not in anyone’s best interest.
