The recent proposal to enact the cashless tolls on the Hatem Bridge seems shockingly outrageous to me. While it hasn't been widely publicized in the press releases, the new tolls will come as a shocking surprise to many the first time they breeze through pulling a trailer.

Commuters who do not have an E-ZPass or choose to have the discounted Hatem-only E-ZPass will be billed $24 for a single-axle and $36 for a dual-axle trailer. These rates were already outrageous at $16 and $24 respectively. If your E-ZPass has expired and you breeze through with your car, expect a $12 bill in the mail.

Cecil County has several nice boat ramps and is a very popular destination for recreation. A huge push is being made to bring tourism to the county and it seems like the state doesn't care. I've contacted my local and state representatives and it seems like this isn't very high on their list of concerns either by the lack of response.

If you too are concerned, reach out to MDTA via mdta@mdta.maryland.gov or contact your local delegate and state senators, although I fear it's already too late.
