NORTH EAST — Maryland State Police at the John F. Kennedy Highway Barrack are investigating a Sunday morning head-on collision that killed two people.
The name of one of the victims has not been released, pending notification of families, a barrack spokesman said. However, police have identified Donna Marie Kennedy, 61, from Cecil County, as the first victim of the crash.
The wreck occurred at the 96 mile marker near the Chesapeake House Rest Stop around 8:30 a.m. Kennedy’s vehicle — for as yet unknown reasons — was traveling south in the northbound lanes. Traveling against the traffic, the vehicle struck another head-on. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither had any passengers.
A third vehicle was damaged by flying debris, but its passengers were not injured, police reported.
Maryland State Police closed the interstate for four hours due to the damage and the accompanying investigation. The vehicles involved blocked a large portion of the road, according to police at the scene.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the barrack at 410-537-1150.
