RISING SUN — A Friday afternoon fire that destroyed a boat trailered at a home on Biggs Highway was accidental, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Investigators said the 12:34 p.m. fire was reported by a neighbor that witnessed the 23-foot C-Hawk burning at Boyd Buckland’s home in the 200 block of Biggs Highway. The damage was estimated at $8,000.

Deputy Fire Marshals Derek Chapman and Michael Selvage investigated and found the fire began in the engine compartment of the center console boat. They reported an electrical failure was to blame.
