Low-cost, local events happening this week. To be included, your event must be family friendly and take place in Cecil County as well as adjoining areas within a 20-minute drive. Please submit the event title, time and address in the body of an email to accent@cecilwhig.com at least a week before. Once approved by an editor, the event will be listed until its completion date. PET THERAPY TRAINING, 5 to 8 p.m., Elkton Central Library, 301 Newark Ave., Elkton. PAWS for People will hold training sessions for potential pet therapy teams during August in Elkton. Who should attend? Anyone with a gentle, people-friendly pet who is interested in volunteering time to work with children and adults with varying needs. PAWS for People provides therapeutic visits to individuals who will benefit from interaction with a well-trained, loving pet. Therapy teams consist of one volunteer and one pet who have both completed rigorous training and testing. Visitation sites range from nursing homes and hospitals to schools and libraries, with a wide variety of programs including eldercare, psychiatric support, developmental disabilities, literacy skills development and many more. CANDLELIGHT VIGIL, 6 p.m., North East Community Park, Gilbert Lighthouse Pavilion, North East. Voices of Hope will hold a candlelight vigil from 6 p.m. until dusk in honor of family members and friends lost to the addiction. Cecil families are invited to come together to mourn the loss of our neighbors, friends, and loved ones to the disease of addiction. They will not be forgotten. Please come show your support. Luminaries will be provided for decoration and lighting. Pictures and memories are welcomed.

FIGURE DRAWING SESSION, 10 a.m. to noon, Cecil County Arts Council, 135 E. Main St., Elkton. Figure drawing group meets every week on the 2nd floor gallery at the arts council. All skill levels are welcome, just bring your ​art supplies with you. Must be 18 years or older to participate. Cost is only $5 per person, please call or email to make your reservations as seating is limited.
