For Llewellyns, Legion and service are traditions

The Llewellyn family of Port Deposit, totally supports the Boys and Girls State programs of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Joe and Lisa Llewellyn started their family in 1996, with their first born, Lauren Elisabeth. Lauren began attending the Tome School in 2007 when she was in the sixh grade. In June 2013, Lauren was excited to go to Girls State, where she became the lieutenant governor. After graduating from the Tome School in June, Lauren moved to Colorado, where she reported to the U.S. Air Force Academy and graduated in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Lauren started fixed-wing pilot training in August 2018 at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, but has since moved to Fort Rucker, Ala., where she will train with the Army to become a helicopter pilot.

Leah Louise was born in April 1997. She followed Lauren to the Tome School in August 2008, after completing six years at Conowingo Elementary. Leah was also excited to attend Girls State and did so in June 2014. After graduating from high school in 2015, Leah reported to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. She graduated in May 2019, and has been assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant, based out of Cape Canaveral, Fla. She also has aspirations of flying in the future.

Joseph Patrick came along in May 1998. In 2009, at the start of sixth grade, he also moved from our local public school to the Tome School in North East. It was in June 2015, when Joseph attended Boys State at McDaniel College. After hearing a particular guest speaker there, he came away from the experience much more appreciative of being a U.S. citizen. Joseph graduated from Tome in 2016 and is now beginning his 1st Class (Senior) year at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he plans to pursue a career in the aviation field, as well.

Lindsay Marie was born in December 1999. She moved from the public school system to the Tome School the same year as her brother, in 2009, when she was in fourth grade. Lindsay attended Girls State at Salisbury University in June 2017. She is a talented basketball player and was recruited by the Naval Academy before graduating from the Tome School in June 2018. She just completed a year at the Naval Academy Prep School in Rhode Island. Lindsay enjoyed a short break before reporting to the U.S. Naval Academy at the end of June 2019 for Plebe Summer.

Jamie Lee and Jordan Lynn were born in February 2002. The twins moved to Tome when they started third grade in the fall of 2010. They just returned from their awesome Girls State experience last week at Salisbury University. Jamie and Jordan were both recruited last year, as juniors, by the head coach of the Naval Academy’s women’s volleyball team. They look forward to joining their sister in Annapolis after they graduate from Tome in June 2020.
