Cecil County School will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7 due to expected poor road conditions as winter storms move through Maryland overnight.
With the schools closing, this means that county sporting events for this weekend will be postponed until a later date.
All basketball games as well as the annual "Battle at the Bridge" prep wrestling event which was set to feature Bohemia Manor, Rising Sun and Elkton wrestling along with a slew of Harford County schools competing against each other in a two-day event at Bohemia Manor.
Bruce Kline, athletic director at Bohemia Manor, said via text message that the event will be rescheduled to Feb. 11-12.
With the spike in COVID-19 cases and winter weather taking its toll on the schedule, area athletes, coaches and fans are having to be patient and make the best of a difficult situation in most cases.
"While we are all anxious with the uncertainty with covid and weather situations, wr are grateful that we get to play games," ELkton athletic director Tony Shinnick said. "Most people are displaying grace and understanding with the ever changing events. A year ago, these athletes had nothing and although things aren't ideal, i fell like they have a better appreciation for what they do have."
