CAMBRIDGE - A man was taken into custody Wednesday after he allegedly shot a sheriff's deputy in the arm.
Authorities say a U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force was attempting to serve a warrant at a Cambridge home Wednesday morning when Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Funk, 29, was shot. The sheriff's office says Funk returned fire and escaped out a window onto a roof, where he was rescued.
Funk was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with non-life-threatening injuries.
Cambridge police said Tavon Dobson, of Cambridge, surrendered following a reported standoff Wednesday afternoon near his home.
Police said the incident began at 10:31 a.m., when a police officer went to a home on Hubbard Street to serve a warrant. Police said the situation escalated into a barricade incident.
Court records from the Maryland Judiciary website show Dobson has outstanding warrants in Dorchester for a variety of charges including assault and theft from August.
