Delaware State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that killed an 18-year-old from Hockessin.

Around 1 a.m. Nov. 1, James Vandegrift, 18, of Hockessin, was running from the sidewalk on the east side of Lancaster Pike (Route 41) into the northbound lane of Lancaster Pike, north of Schoolhouse Road, when a 2005 Volvo tractor trailer operated by Ira Goldsborough, 40, of Vineland, N.J. struck him, police said.

Vandegrift was pronounced dead at the scene. Goldsborough, who was properly restrained, was not injured.
