Area churches are preparing for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday services. Several area churches have special Easter egg hunts or sunrise services planned.

Cecilton United Methodist Parish
The parish will present an Easter Cantata entitled “The Day He Wore My Crown,” which will be performed by an ecumenical choir comprised of voices from regional Churches under the direction of Joan Magee. The parish invites the public to come this Sunday at 7 p.m. to the Zion UMC Sanctuary for an evening of Easter Music. Refreshments will follow the performance.
Chesapeake City United Methodist Church
There will be a big Easter egg hunt for children between Easter Sunday services. The hunt will happen at 10:10 a.m., after the first service and before the second. For more information, call 410-885-5641.
Elkton United Methodist Church
Palm Sunday Service, 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. There will be a cantata during the 11 a.m. service with music director Sharon Williams and the Chancel Choir singing “Canticle of the Cross” by Joseph Martin. At noon families are invited to a covered dish luncheon followed by an Easter Egg Hunt.
For Maunday Thursday there will be a soup and bread supper at 6 p.m., followed by a worship service at 7:30 p.m.
A Community Ecumenical Cross Walk through Elkton will begin at noon on Good Friday. The walk begins at Wrights AME Church on Booth Street and ends at Trinity Episcopal Church on Bridge Street.
Easter Sunday will be celebrated beginning at 6:30 a.m. with a sunrise service at the Community Pond at the end of East Main Street. Participants should bring a chair.
Easter breakfast will be served at the church from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Festival Easter Worship will take place in the sanctuary of the church during three identical services at 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. Each service will feature the Chancel, men’s choir and and bell and brass choirs, as well as the organ.
First Baptist Church of North East
On April 12, the church will host a free community Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. with lots of eggs, food and fun. There will also be a Lord’s Supper re-enactment, a live drama with men from the church portraying Jesus and the disciples, at 6:30 p.m.
Palm Sunday will be marked with another Lord’s Supper re-enactment at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
There will be an Easter “son-rise” service at 6:15 a.m. at North East Town Park at the Benjamin Pavilion. Easter worship at the church will be held at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
Hart’s United Methodist Church
For more than 60 years, Hart’s United Methodist Church has hosted an Easter Sunrise Service at the amphitheater on Turkey Point Road. Service will begin at 6:00 a.m. with sunrise happening at 6:20 a.m. The Rev. Derrick Porter, United Methodist Wilmington District Superintendent, will deliver a special Easter message. Jack Foreaker will provide music. Warm beverages and doughnuts will be available in the Hart's social room following the service.
North East United Methodist Church
There will be a Maundy Thursday worship service at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, there will be a Cross Walk at 12 p.m. beginning at North East middle school and proceeding through town to the church.
Easter services will be 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and a Christian education for all ages at 9:30 a.m.
Principio United Methodist Church
There will be two worship opportunities on Easter Sunday. The first is an outdoor Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. and the second is the weekly service at 9:45 a.m. in the sanctuary. A light breakfast will be served after the Sunrise service. Both services will include liturgy, prayer, a sermon and music.
The Sunrise Service will take place on the grounds of the church between the cemetery and the church.
Rosebank Methodist Church
A Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. at Rosebank, at 1746 Telegraph Road in Rising Sun. An Easter sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. All are welcome. Regular Easter service will be at 9 a.m.
West Nottingham Presbyterian Church
West Nottingham will host an Easter egg hunt on April 19.
from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There will be games, crafts and snacks for children up to fifth grade. Bring your own Easter basket. The church is located at 1195 Firetower Road, Colora. Call 410-658-6366, x21 for more information.
